Hello! Happy Friday! I would like to introduce myself. I am Stewart. My glamour photo is above! At eight years old, I am a member of the “Old Guys Rule and Young Guys Drool” association at Last Chance at Life Rescue (LCAL). Henry, Bowser and Tiger are my fellow Old Guys. It is just us boys since Mindy left for her sleepover this week. Mindy kept us presentable but she has joined her Forever Family and left us old guys to hold down the kennel. You will hear more about Henry, Bowser and Tiger another day. Today, is My Story.
I am on the smaller side for a German Shepherd at 70 pounds. Even though I am eight, I am pretty energetic and have a lot to say to the other dogs at LCAL. I LOVE to run, explore and have fun. Even though I have been cooped up in the shelter, I have pretty good leash manners. Like a typical shepherd, I am very smart (if I do say so myself) and can be a little determined. Just the other day, I gave one of the new walkers a little bit of sass when she tried to put me back in the kennel. “Don’t take me back to the Klink lady! I was meant to be Free!” My best friend Nicci was having none of my antics and with a little push on my booty I was behind bars again. (I like to break in the new volunteers. Hee Hee. All harmless fun – I’m not a bully. I just want you to know that I’ve still got it going on!) Along those lines, I understand basic commands but sometimes decide to do my own thing – unless a treat is involved. I do enjoy a good treat – preferably peanut butter.
Excuse me for a moment, while you humans are distracted, I would like to check this bench for snacks. I know they were in here the other day. Just want to make sure Henry didn’t pilfer any. You know how Labs can be around snacks.
More than anything, I love my walks. I pull a little on the leash but settle down quickly. A Forever Family who enjoys hiking and walking would be ideal. I am very scheduled about my potty breaks and as long as I am not kenneled for too long, I rarely have an accident. Here is a picture of me with my best friend Nicci on our walk.
Today was a great day! Because of my interview, I had extra time outside and made sure to check on my buddies. Walks are the highlight of my day!
LCAL takes good care of me, but nothing beats sleeping in your own bed, eating your own snacks, and loving your own Person. Some people worry about adopting older dogs. As an Old Guy, I am here to tell you that older dogs make great companions. We have nice manners, we understand basic commands, we appreciate routines, and we sleep when you sleep! Most important, us older dogs know that we have been given a second chance at a forever home and we reward our Humans with affection and loyalty. If you think you might be My Forever Family, I would love to meet you!
